Lists of example shift patterns

We have constructed lists of example shift patterns (rosters, rotas) for continuous work based on 4 teams.

one team rostered 24/7
average of 42 hours rostered per week (assuming paid mealbreaks and no handovers between shifts)
unpaid mealbreaks will reduce the average number of hours rostered per week
handovers between shifts will increase the average number of hours rostered per week

Shift pattern examples are available based on:

8 hour shifts
average of 5.25 shifts rostered per week
average 1.75 rest days per week
average of 1 weekend off in 4
12 hour shifts
average of 3.5 shifts rostered per week
average of 3.5 rest days per week
average of 2 weekend off in 4
8 hour (weekdays) and 12 hour shifts (weekends)
average of 4.75 shifts rostered per week
average of 2.25 rest days per week
average of 2 weekend off in 4

4 team shift patterns with a reduction in weekly hours

The average number of hours rostered per week in a 4-team system based on full teams, paid mealbreaks and no handovers between shifts is 42. This can be reduced by rostering additional rest days which  effectively means running with less than a full team for part of the week. There are many ways in which this can be done depending on contracted hours required per week and team sizes.

An example: reducing to an average of 36 hours per week

Suppose you want:

4 team system but with just 36 hours rostered per week
paid mealbreaks
no handovers between shifts

One way of achieving this is to:

split each team into two halves
make sure that each half-team has the full range of skills and grades
roster full-teams during weekdays, Mon-Fri
roster half-teams at weekends, Sat-Sun

This can be done by taking a standard 4-team shift pattern based on full teams and rostering just half-teams at the weekends, on a rota basis.

If you would like to operate with 4 teams, but on something less than 42 hours per week, email us your requirements and we can get back to you with advice and a quote for devising some shift pattern examples.
