One-day workshop on shift patterns for 24/7 working

A common problem is to find a suitable and acceptable shift pattern for continuous working - that is, one team rostered at all times, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - sometimes referred to as 24/7. This course will take you through the many options available with the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Course outline

Traditional approach (weekly hours rostered; holiday taken from gross weekly hours; additional hours worked paid as overtime; staffing levels usually including an allowance for absence)
Annualised Hours approach (hours are calculated on an annual basis; holiday is often rostered or partially rostered; overtime is usually eliminated or substantially reduced)
Traditional versus Annualised Hours
A typical Annualised Hours calculation
8 versus 12 hour shifts
Shutdowns
Absence management
Commonly used shift patterns for 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6 teams

Shift patterns

Examples of commonly used shift patterns are included in the course material. However, more comprehensive lists are available at a 20% discount for delegates as long as they are ordered within a week of attending the course. Lists are available in Report form, as Excel spreadsheets or as RotaView databases. See our Shift Pattern page  for details. RotaView is our computerised shift planning and administration system. See our RotaView  page for details.
