Standard shift patterns

We have constructed lists of standard shift patterns (rosters, rotas) for continuous, semi-continuous and discontinuous shiftworking.

Continuous: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7)
Semi-continuous: continuous for a period of time usually part of a week
Discontinuous: not 24 hours a day, but could be 7 days a week

The lists are available in the following formats:

Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
Microsoft Word document
RotaBase (a database of rotas or shift patterns that can be accessed by our two rostering software products, RotaBase and RotaView)

Bespoke shift patterns

If you can't find a shift pattern to match your requirements from our list of standard patterns we can help you develop one. We have devised a step-by-step approach to developing shift patterns that allows you to explore their many features and constraints such as operational, contractual and "social": If you need help and would like a quote then please email or phone. Initially, we would need some basic information such as:

on-the-day staffing levels
number of staff available
weekly contracted hours (or annual hours in the case of annualised hour systems)
company name and department
contact telephone number

Annual rosters

We have also constructed examples of annual rosters (shift patterns, rotas) which are typically used in annualised hour systems. See our Annual Rosters page for details.

Database of rotas

We have constructed lists of sample rotas (shift patterns, rosters) in database format as well as in Microsoft Excel. RotaBases can be accessed by our two rostering software products:

RotaBase allows you to:

Select a rota from a library of rotas (shift patterns, rosters)
Produce individual or team calendars on the screen or as printouts
View the rota (shift pattern, roster) in a number of ways, over any period of time,  on the screen or as printouts
Add your own shift and absence codes with start and finish times, descriptions and hours of work
Assign a colour to a shift code
Do shift count and hour calculations over any period of time
Cut and paste rotas (shift patterns, rosters) to and from other Windows applications, such as Excel

RotaView is a shift planning and administration system that contains all the functionality of RotaBase but much more besides.
